Finding Inspiration for 2016

Hello world! I've been off for a couple weeks over the holidays, and by off I mean way off. Besides having to work two days to keep administrative stuff going and bills paid, I completely unplugged. I don't think I've ever taken this much time off before (except when I was a bartender and I took a month off to go to Australia...which seems like another lifetime!) And I don't know what it's like for you but for me, in my downtime I am still always thinking about this business. If I'm surfing Instagram looking at fashion and paper goods, it's giving me ideas for paintings...if I'm reading a magazine, I'm looking for colour combinations to use in a painting... the rest of the time I am contemplating where I'm at in my career, where I've been, where I want to go, what shows I should do...it goes on and on and on. It's exhausting. So it was really really great to turn all that off (almost off) and hang out with my family. I didn't even leave the house for two days at one point! We had lots of time to sleep in, make coffee,  snuggle, watch Christmas movies...sigh, it was divine. I am so blessed to be able to do that with my kids while they are little. Snap! Back to reality... are you finding it hard to get back into your routine? I think we've all turned nocturnal from our holiday schedule (or lack thereof) and can't sleep at night and can't get up in the morning. Seriously, when will the sun start getting up before I do? But I'm getting there, starting to get organized for the year, making plans and goals. I follow Natalie MacNeil from She Takes on the World and she has some great tips on goal setting and staying focused on those goals. I also enrolled in an e-course on Creative Live by Lisa Congdon for professional artists, just to get some new business strategies and fresh ideas. I'm doing a Pulp & Press juice cleanse to get rid of all the crap I ate over the holidays (I fell off the wagon, way off) and today is the last day! Hallelujah! I miss food! One of these days, I might even pick up a paint brush too. It's kind of like exercising for me, once I get out of the routine of doing it, I find it really hard to get back... but feels so right when I do. And yes, I'm back to the gym too...if you're in Woodstock check out Alternate Routes... amazing.

This is Pantone's Colour(s) of the year. What do you think, painting worthy? It's a really pretty colour combination but tricky to use without looking like a baby's room. I'll give it a try.

And my kid's drawers are basically full of Old Navy clothes, so that sucks. Who do they think designs their clothes? models their clothes? photographs their clothes? designs their marketing material? Artists, damn it! I guess I should have aspired to be an Astronaut ... like that's more practical! shirt-old-navy-artistImage from today.com

Thank you for your time. Back to work!

xoxo, Julie
